Corel to support Office, OpenDocument formats

Corel, maker of the once industry-standard WordPerfect, has announced that it will support both Microsoft's Office Open XML and OpenDocument formats, starting next year. Users of both WordPerfect and Corel's Quattro Pro spreadsheet software will be able to open and edit documents saved in the two competing formats. What's next for Portland desktop Linux project

Portland is an ongoing project by Linux developers to create de facto standards for how applications integrate in desktop environments. The project's top members met recently in Germany and devised a list of next steps and future goals. IBM to put OpenDocument format in Notes

The next version of Lotus Notes will include native support for the OpenDocument format. That means users can do things like open a document directly in their inbox, share the document with ODF-supporting programs from other companies, and even get information from the document without having to open it. Coming soon: ODF for Microsoft Office

Yesterday, we told you about the Open Document Format achieving its ISO standardization. Now there's some more tangible news: there will soon be a plug-in for the format that works inside Microsoft Office, the president of the OpenDocument Foundation said.
