JBoss to open systems management tools

Red Hat's JBoss division is open-sourcing parts of its middleware suite. The main part involved is the Operations Network, an agent technology for systems management features. JBoss' blueprints, methods, and toolkits will all be available under a to-be-determined public license. Novell buys e-Security, warms to Oracle deal

Novell is acquiring e-Security for $72 million. e-Security's product line, Sentinel, monitors and reports on compliance and network safety. Officials said the deal was underway long before this week's news about Oracle considering Novell or rival Red Hat as acquisition targets of its own. Red Hat, JBoss deal affecting partners

There's some fallout from the bomb dropped by Red Hat this week after announcing its intention to buy JBoss for $350 million. The two most affected companies are Microsoft and Novell. In addition to being natural rivals in the operating systems and middleware spaces, both Microsoft and Novell are JBoss technical partners.
