Borland, Telelogic debut development upgrades
Software development rivals Borland and Telelogic each are announcing new upgrades this week. Borland's new toy is SilkTest 8.0, which came from the recent Segue acquisition and is used for testing Eclipse and .Net programs. It ships tomorrow. Telelogic has System Architect 10.4 focusing on the Business Process Execution Language, along with new support tools, all shipping June 5.

Borland exits IDE gig, buys Segue for $100M
Want to buy a Java-intensive integrated development environment business? Borland's is for sale, including the well-known Delphi and JBuilder franchises. Borland is moving its focus to more generic software development and project management tools, or "application lifecycle management" in marketing-speak. To kick-start that, they're acquiring Segue Software for $100 million. The deal should finish in the second quarter; you'll hear more in Borland's earnings report tomorrow.

IBM spearheads AJAX tools at Eclipse
IBM is leading a new group to develop open-source AJAX development tools. It's working with the Eclipse Foundation, Mozilla and companies like BEA Systems, Borland, Google, Novell, Oracle, Red Hat, Yahoo, Zend and others. AJAX applications are relatively difficult to develop compared to other Internet-centric programming methodologies, IBM officials explained.
