Zuckerberg: Yes, I do use Facebook 'all day long'

In a Facebook status update, developer Jeremiah Cohick wrote that Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is probably too busy to actually spend much time using the social networking platform that he created. "In the same way drug dealers don't use the product they sell, I doubt Zuckerberg is on Facebook all day. Visionaries don't idle online," wrote Cohick. Surprisingly, Zuckerberg himself disagreed, replying within minutes: "No, I really do use Facebook all day long."

The incident is entertaining on one level, and may humanize Zuckerberg to supporters and Facebook fans alike. For the thousands of 'likes' that Zuckerberg's response has generated, the incident does once again raise the question about whether your average office worker has any business to be on Facebook "all day long" or to even log in during office hours.

Most employers would never permit staffers to install a TV at their desks, even if it's just tuned to CNN. So why then should they be allowed to park their Facebook pages at a corner of their monitor?

On the other hand, some may argue that concerns over social networking platforms like Facebook are unwarranted, and are akin to how misguided businesses tried to ban the use of instant messenger when it was all the rage. Today, IM is widely used as a medium to facilitate work-related discussions and conversations.

What are your experiences with Facebook use in the office? Should it even be allowed at work?
