Zero-Day Exploits

As expected, Microsoft released patches yesterday for flaws in Windows and Office. And, as expected, Microsoft is still behind the curve, as unpatched vulnerabilities in just about every version of Word in use remain. "Conspicuous by their absence are patches for the zero-day exploits in Word," said Andrew Storms, director of security operations at network security firm nCircle, who theorized that patches were "probably pulled due to quality issues." Hopefully, those Word bugs will be patched soon via Automatic Update, though I wouldn't hold my breath for anything shy of February's Patch Tuesday.
