WordPress 3.0 blogging software has been released
A new version of the WordPress blogging platform, WordPress 3.0 was released on Thursday. The thirteenth major version to date, there is no doubt that the PHP-based WordPress has risen to be the most popular and widely used web blogging tool in the world right now.
One of the major enhancements in this version is its ability to run multiple blogs. In the past, this feature was only available in a customized edition called WordPress MU, which was considered hard to get working. This new version integrates the functionalities of WordPress MU with the default, single-user version. This is a boon for those who own or operate multiple blogs, especially when complemented with other new features such as the ability to update multiple plug-ins at the same time.
According to WordPress co-developer Matt Mullenweg, the next step for the team would be to fine-tune certain systems such as improving areas such as the mailing lists, APIs and theme directories.
New users who want to give WordPress 3.0 a spin can download WordPress here, while existing users can update to the new version from within the administrative dashboard. Users of the hosted WordPress.com service will find that it has already been updated to the latest version.
