Windows Vista: Coming soon to a desktop near you?

As we noted in the last issue, Microsoft's release of Windows Vista was a strong candidate for 2006's IT story of the year. So, were we all greeted at our desks this morning by Vista's stunning new Aero interface? Hardly. While analyst predictions are varied, my bet is that 2007 will be the year that some early adopters launch Vista in the enterprise. A few companies who need certain features in Vista, are at the end of a hardware/software cycle or who just want the latest-greatest will take the plunge in the coming year and deploy Vista to their users. As for the rest of us? My bet is that 2008 is the real year that mass-market Vista adoption becomes a reality.
