Windows Server 2008, Vista SP1 on track

Few folks await new patches and builds as anxiously as Microsoft fans do--part of the reason being that the company frequently misses the deadlines that it sets for itself. Microsoft recently revealed that two major products--Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and Windows Server 2008--will both ship to customers during the first quarter of 2008. That means that the race in on in Redmond to get these two oft-delayed products out the door in time--and it also means that it's time for tech journalists to track the company's progress and offer up predictions. ZDnet's resident Microsoft monitor, Mary Jo Foley, has been keeping her ear close to the ground and notes that "Next week could mark the delivery of new test builds of both Windows Vista Service Pack (SP) 1 and Windows Server 2008, if signs this week are any indication." That would put the company right on track with the roadmap that they revealed last month. And if we don't see the test builds next week? Well, that might just signal that there are more delays ahead.
