Windows Mobile: Not secure enough

As a large number of business users now use smartphones and other portable wireless devices, it's important that IT departments ensure that their mobile users access confidential information using a secure platform. According to a new analyst report, Microsoft's Windows Mobile may fall short when it comes to the level of security that most enterprises require. In particular, Microsoft's decision not to include on-board file-encryption technology, for everything from email to confidential documents, could end up hurting the company in the enterprise market. "The way that Microsoft has engineered mobile push e-mail the information is relatively out in the open, such as when doing a sync between Exchange and Pocket Outlook," said Jack Gold, a principal analyst with J. Gold Associates. "The use of only a password is a pretty insecure approach, and companies will likely want the ability to encrypt all the data that's being stored there."
