Windows leads as server market booms

Microsoft for the first time led sales of new servers in the third quarter of 2005, IDC said. Windows had a 36.9 percent revenue share, Unix 31.7 percent and Linux 11.5 percent. However, Linux servers and blade servers had some of the biggest overall growth. Vendor-wise, the order was the same as usual in recent years: IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Sun Microsystems, Fujitsu/Siemens and others.
