Windows-based Treo smartphone arrives
Palm and Microsoft, until fairly recently, were bitter rivals for PDA operating system dominance. Then Palm decided if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Ergo today's debut of the Palm Treo 700w, the "w" moniker meaning Windows Mobile-based. By doing so, Palm makes its popular smartphone more competitive against existing Windows Mobile devices. However, early reviews of the 700w are mixed. (There are said to be more new Treos due soon, along with software updates for the Treo 650.)
