Windows 8 development is well under way

Users who love the improvements in Windows 7 will have more to look forward to, if a blog posting by a Microsoft employee is anything to go by.  The official blog post by someone in the "Windows Update team" was quickly taken down, though not before attracting some attention.

"Who's calling it Windows 8," wrote the unidentified blogger, substituting the more generic "Windows.next" term instead to refer to the next version of Windows. On the operating system itself, the blogger promised, "The minimum that folks can take for granted is that the next version will be something completely different from what folks usually expect of Windows."

It seems that Microsoft is really taking user feedback seriously this round, noting that "I am simply impressed with the process that Steven [Sinofsky] has setup to listen to our customers needs and wants and get a team together than can make it happen. To actually bring together dozens and dozens of teams across Microsoft to come up with a vision for Windows.next is a process that is surreal."  Steven Sinofsky is President of the Windows and Windows Live Division at Microsoft.

The development team seems to be acutely cognizant of how Vista turned out, in that Microsoft went out too early promising a plethora of features it was unable to deliver. Instead, the team will steer clear of floating ideas and technologies until they are ready to be delivered. Now, all the team has to do is pull another Windows 7.
