Will Longhorn be late again?

Longhorn, the next version of Microsoft Windows, has been delayed and stripped-down several times already. Now there are signs that Microsoft may miss its "holiday 2006" goal anyhow. Joe Peterson, the executive in charge of developing Longhorn, has been reassigned and replaced with Chris Jones, a go-to-market specialist. Meanwhile, beta testers noticed that the latest code update includes an expiration extension to December 2006. With any other company, one could believe Microsoft's benign explanation (testers like more time), but in this case it looks like Microsoft is just covering its backpanel in case of a delay.
