What's next after Windows 7?

In case you haven't read about it yet, Windows 7 Release Candidate is available to the general public as of today. If the rumors are right, a full release could be due as early as October this year. So what plans does Microsoft have once Windows 7 is released? And what will happen to Windows Vista--the operating system everyone loves to hate--in a post-Windows 7 world?

One thing is for certain, even Microsoft doesn't regard Windows Vista highly. At a conference call last week, Mike Nash, corporate vice president of the Windows product management group actually admitted, "It's been a long time since we've had a version of Windows that will actually run better [than the previous version] on the hardware that most customers have."

While we await new information from Microsoft, know that it will not stop supporting Vista until April 2012.
