What we can expect from cloud computing in 2010

There is little doubt that Cloud computing has entered the mainstream. As with virtualization, a number of large players have already launched or will be launching new products to cater to this paradigm shift in computing.

If recent price cuts were any indication, 2010 will see cloud pricing dip to record lows as providers rush to secure the largest customer base, predicts Patrick Thibodeau of Computerworld. Jeff Maling, CEO of Roundarch Inc, a web services consultancy in Chicago agrees, saying: "They are pricing very aggressively to get volume on the platform."

Another change that we can expect from cloud computing this year would be providers moving to address security concerns. Time and again, a weakness--perceived or otherwise--in security has been highlighted as the foremost concern for companies not to move into cloud computing.

Many of these concerns revolve around liability and legal repercussions in the event of security meltdowns or data breaches. While the situation is still cloudy for now, you can probably expect things to improve as the year progresses.
