Vonage deathwatch: CEO resigns, layoffs imminent
Poor Vonage just can't seem to catch a break these days. The embattled VoIP provider keeps suffering crushing blow after crushing blow in its ongoing patent infringement suit with Verizon, and after a judge barred the company from signing up new customers, things aren't looking good. In a possibly futile attempt to shake things up and appease shareholders, Michael Snyder has announced that he will step down as CEO. Vonage founder and Chairman of the Board Jeffrey Citron will fill that role until a successor is found (or until the company is sued out of existence, presumably, whichever comes first). Additionally, the company has announced $140 million in cost-cutting initiatives across its various departments--which likely means that a lot of Vonage folks will soon find themselves out of a job. I've said it before and I'll say it again: If you use Vonage service in your business, start making funeral plans.
