VMware Workstation 7.1 Beta now available for download
Virtualization giant VMware has just released its latest desktop hypervisor software, Workstation 7.1 for beta download. Among hundreds of minor improvements, some key enhancements in Workstation 7.1 would be support for up to eight virtual processors as well as virtual disks that can be scaled up to 2TB per virtual machine. While maximum support memory per virtual machine remains capped at 32GB for each guest operating system, it should be adequate even for the most demanding users.
In addition, graphics performance was also given a bump with hardware accelerated OpenGL 2.1 support put into the WDDM driver for Windows 7 and Windows Vista guests; benchmarks from VMware show how some graphics applications deliver 80 percent better performance. Video playback is also smoother, and VMware says rendering issues that were reported previously have been addressed.
In the meantime, you can check out the full list of improvements and download VMware Workstation 7.1 Beta here.
