VMware unveils player software, solutions focus
October 19, 2005 — 8:01pm ET
EMC's VMware division announced new software called VMware Player. The desktop tool lets end users run and share, but not create, virtual machines in Windows and Linux. Similarly, it can be used to store personal desktops on flash memory devices, so users can plug into any terminal. Meanwhile, VMware demonstrated beta versions of the ESX3 and VirtualCenter2 applications, which it said will ship early next year. The betas are not yet widely available.
