VMware unveils first free, open source virtual desktop client
Virtualization giant VMware has unveiled a free virtual desktop client that enterprise users can use to access their work machines from any mobile devices. In development for nearly a year, the Linux-based VMware View Open Client essentially let users connect to desktops that are hosted in the data center. I suppose if VMware were to have its way, everything would be virtualized and hosted in the datacenter by now.
By providing a universal client solution, desktops will literally "follow" the user regardless of location or client used to access their desktop. At the moment, VMware is providing the source code for the VMware View Open Client to its enterprise partners in the hope that they will be able to accelerate the development and delivery of their own personalized virtual desktop solutions.
