VMware aims to bring virtualization to SMBs
VMware may be a household name at most large enterprises for its virtualization solutions but until now, most of that technology has remained out of reach for SMBs. VMware hopes to change that, with the introduction of software and support aimed squarely at the small and medium-sized business--not to mention the small and medium-sized budget. VMware's SMB bundle includes VirtualCenter server management software for VMware, which allows users to partition a single server into a number of virtual servers. At only $1500, the package aims to make virtualization more accessible to a segment of the market that has traditionally been ignored. "In the next couple of years, we believe there will be a tremendous amount of growth in virtualization use with [SMBs]," said Ben Matheson, director of product management and marketing for VMware.
