Vista launches alongside malware
While Microsoft is intent on convincing consumers and businesses alike that this year's model of Windows is a more secure platform, hackers are intent on business as usual, that is to say, spreading malicious code. So it's no surprise that the Internet's seedy underbelly hasn't skipped a beat on the day of Vista's launch: security vendor Sophos has identified three viruses, Stratio-Zip, Netsky-D and MyDoom-O, that affect Vista users who use a third-party web email client. To Microsoft's credit, Vista's built-in email client does prevent the viruses from being installed on a user's hard drive. But considering how many people use third-party clients, these viruses still pose a legitimate security risk. Let the games begin!
