Virtualization companies vie for advantage

Competition is getting hotter in server virtualization. EMC's VMware subsidiary last week said it will give away the low-end GSX Server for free, as does Xen, an open-source rival. Meanwhile, start-up Virtual Iron has new endorsements from IBM and Novell/Suse, and SWsoft is pushing a high-reliability angle for Web hosting applications. It will be interesting to see where these systems are in a year.
