Video: Symbian S60 gets all touchy
Remember when Nokia showed off an almost uncanny iPhone look-alike, noting that imitation was the most sincere form of flattery? At the time, all we were told was that the device would run an operating system from Symbian, though it was unclear whether this meant an all-new Symbian OS or an update to the existing S60 platform that would bring touchscreen functionality into the fold. Now we have our answer: Symbian has taken the wraps off of its S60 Touch Interface, which will bring a number of, uh, familiar features to the popular S60 OS. What's different from the iPhone? Well, it has haptics touch feedback, flash video on the web via Flash Lite 3 and a feature that lets you turn the phone on silent by flipping it over. What's the same as the iPhone? Everything else. Check out the video (link below) if you don't believe me. Symbian is looking to get this OS out to manufacturers sometime in 2008, which should give Cupertino quite a bit of time to put together an airtight copyright infringement case.
