Video plug-in war looms on the horizon
There's a lot of video streaming going on these days and as far as formats go, Adobe's Flash, Microsoft's Windows Media Format, Apple's Quicktime and Real Networks's Real Player are all looking a bit long in the tooth. Adobe has a solution in its Adobe Video Player, the follow up to Adobe Flash, which would allow viewers to watch video content both online and offline. Meanwhile, Microsoft has already signed up major players in the content industry like Major League Baseball and Netflix for its upcoming Silverlight browser plug-in, which will compete with Adobe's platform to deliver streaming media to the desktop.
