Vendors show off second generation UMPCs at CeBit
This time last year, we were all waiting in hushed anticipation to see what Microsoft's mysterious "Origami" was all about. When Microsoft announced the Ultramobile PC spec at CeBit 2006, more than a few of us were disappointed. Unsurprisingly, UMPCs have failed to take off during the past year, but do they have a brighter future ahead? That's what companies like Samsung, Gigabyte, Amtec and Asus are hoping, as they show off their second generation UMPCs at this year's CeBit. There are certainly many occupations for which UMPCs would make sense but the devices' prohibitive prices and numerous problems will likely keep them out of enterprise paws for the time being.
