Windows shops that occasionally need Unix tools might be well served by Posix. Posix is middleware that makes Unix applications think they're running on a Unix operating system when it's actually Windows. This used to be called Interix, but with the advent of the Vista era, Microsoft is renaming it Subsystem for Unix Applications. That's not as much fun to say but it requires less explanation. Name aside, Posix has some quirks, but it also has some handy tools for porting your own applications.
