University server in hackers' hands for a year
Somehow, the IT staff at Ohio University didn't notice as a server ran under attack for a full year. Personal data of 137,000 people were compromised. Apparently an old server was accidentally left online and forgotten, so it never received security updates, thereby leaving a wide-open door for attackers, the school's CIO explained.
