Trend Micro security coming to Linksys routers
The number three computer security software vendor is getting ready to unveil software that will work on network routers. The software is dubbed Home Network Defender, and will run on home networking gear to protect groups of PCs from malware.
The WRT310N and WRT610N routers from Linksys will initially be bundled with 30-day trial subscriptions, much like how antivirus software is currently bundled with desktops and laptops. Existing customers with compatible devices can opt to download the trial software from the Internet. Linksys is a division of networking giant Cisco Systems.
Home Network Defender will sell for $60 a year, and each subscription comes with four licenses to use Trend's traditional PC anti-virus software on up to four machines.
