Trend Micro announces Web Gateway Security
In an effort to combat the increasing number of threats slipping into the enterprise via innocuous looking URLs, Trend Micro on Monday launched a product called Web Gateway Security to address this particular problem area.
Web Gateway Security goes beyond simple URL filtering, and provides a dashboard for a detailed and "near real-time" look at user activities in terms of network traffic and sites that are visited. This is extremely useful from the perspective of an enterprise, who can now have a broad overview of bandwidth and Internet usage in the company.
Of course, there will invariably be concerns over companies playing "big brother" with the surfing habits of users. Then again, the ability to narrow down the culprits of excessive bandwidth usage or domains that suddenly became inexplicably popular could reveal the presence of a new botnet or problems with certain sites.
