Three security bulletins for today's Patch Tuesday
Three security bulletins affecting Windows are due to be pushed out today, with one of them being a "critical" remote execution flaw affecting all the latest Windows platforms: Windows 2000, XP, Vista, as well as Windows Server 2003 and 2008.
Additional details should be out soon, though Paul Henry, a security and forensic analyst for Lumension, has concluded that the critical patch will be more than enough to keep administrators busy. He noted, "The broad platform impact of the bulletin suggests that core services of the Windows Operating System are to be modified rather than isolated application components."
Patching and then rebooting machines across an enterprise is certainly an extremely disruptive event. Certainly, the presence of service level agreements on uptime could also serve to complicate matters. Whatever the case, it'll probably be a good idea not to hold off this month's patches unnecessarily.
