The top 12 Green IT departments
It's often said that there's a lot of talk about "Green IT" but not a lot of action. True though that may be, there are actually companies out there that are implementing green IT strategies, thereby saving money and serving as thought leaders in a burgeoning new field. ComputerWorld decided to take a close look at some of these companies and created a list of the top 12 green IT leaders. Number one on the list is Highmark Inc., a Harrisburg, PA-based health insurance company. Among their eco-friendly innovations are pushing cold air under a raised floor in the data center to cool server racks and collecting rain runoff from the roof to cool equipment in the server room. "We've had an opportunity to provide leadership as a result of building the data center at the right time," says Highmark CIO Tom Tabor.
