Tablets will outsell netbooks in two years, says Forrester

The sale of tablet PCs will surpass that of netbooks in two years, says a new report by Forrester Research titled "The U.S. Consumer PC Market in 2015." And much of this has to do with the allure created by the iPad. In fact, Forrester thinks that more people will be using tablets than netbooks by 2014.

The company argues that data collected by the company never showed customers who wanted tablet devices. Forrester Research Analyst Sarah Rotman Epps went as far as to say in a statement: "Consumers didn't ask for tablets. In fact, Forrester's data shows that the top features consumers say they want in a PC are a complete mismatch with the features of the iPad. But Apple is successfully teaching consumers to want this new device."

Interestingly, Forrester thinks the tablet should be classified as a type of personal computer, which coincides with the views of Microsoft's (NASDAQ: MSFT) CEO Steve Ballmer. Ballmer had alluded that every computing device is a PC and mentioned how "the PC as we know it will continue to morph" when quizzed about the competition posed by the iPad (NASDAQ: AAPL) tablet at the D8 conference recently.
