AT&T offers cloud-based storage service
AT&T has hopped onto the Storage as a Service (SaaS) bandwagon with a new cloud-based storage solution. Called Synaptic Storage as a Service, the offering will be available on a limited basis starting this month, with plans for general availability by the third quarter of this year. Business users will be able to store and access their data without having to invest in their own storage hardware.
In a prepared statement, Roman Pacewicz, senior vice president of strategy and application services for AT&T Business Solutions said, "The demand for data storage continues to grow at a staggering rate, driven by companies' need for 24x7 access to business critical data." Synaptic Storage is a partnership with storage giant EMC Corporation, and is based on EMC's Atmos technology. AT&T and EMC have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop and market the service.
