Survey: Majority of businesses will defer Windows 7 rollouts

A poll of some 1,100 Windows customers by systems management specialist Kace has discovered that a staggering 84 percent of them will not be adopting Windows 7 in the next 12 months. Unsurprisingly, customers cite the "bad taste" Windows Vista left in the mouths of IT professionals and management staff. Of course, the other aspect has to do with standard delays necessary to ensure compatibility with existing software and hardware.

Another interesting finding by the survey shows that 83 percent will jump straight from Windows XP to Windows 7. This can only prolong the testing for compatibility, even assuming new hardware runs downgraded Windows XP. What's more, additional time and expenses will have to be factored in for training end-users on the changes since XP. Of course, all this is not to say that companies have no intention to adopt Windows 7--just that the rollout will probably be slightly slower.
