Sun upgrades servers with UltraSparc IV+ debut
September 14, 2005 — 8:01pm ET
Sun Microsystems, despite its recent pushing of AMD-based servers, still has plenty of loyal Sparc users. The newest version is UltraSparc IV+ which is expected to debut next week. It will run in servers of four-to-24 processors and includes 2MB of on-chip cache memory -- the prior UltraSparc IV chip had none. Despite the improvements, this is probably the final high-end Sparc chip of the original designs. Sun is moving to all-new designs for 2006 and beyond.
