Sun plans to make all its software free
Sun Microsystems President and COO Jonathan Schwartz said he'll make the company's entire software lineup available cost-free. Is it a huge deal or empty hype? Solaris and Java are already free, so what remains is middleware, desktop software, data center and grid software, and storage management applications. In the latter two categories, what happens if you recently purchased them? There's no word on that or any timetable. And will Sun's rivals respond in kind?
