Sun gives Sparc to high-end machines
October 17, 2005 — 7:01pm ET
Sun Microsystems said it is upgrading the Sun Fire E20K and E25K machines servers with dual-core UltraSparc IV+ chips. These servers can run up to 72 processors. The latest versions of these chips are physically smaller, and size definitely matters for cooling and processor speed when you're talking in nanometers. They're designed for Solaris but can also run Linux, Unix, etc., and are available now.
