Stolen Boeing laptop is just another face in the crowd
You might want to think twice before leaving your MacBook unguarded while you grab another latte: a Boeing corporate laptop that was recently stolen allegedly represents the 100 millionth data breach since February 2005, according to the Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, which tracks such incidents. The milestone laptop, which contained the unencrypted Social Security numbers, names and home addresses of some 382,000 Boeing employees, was stolen from an employee's car. I wonder if immediately after the incident, models from the Clearinghouse ran over to the car with banners and streamers and shouted "Congratulations! You're our 100 millionth victim!" Probably not. At any rate, you might want to make sure that your road warriors aren't carrying around unencrypted data on those laptops, lest your business becomes the next lucky winner.
