SPOTLIGHT: U.S. extends ICANN contract for domains

ICANN will continue to manage the Internet's domain name system until at least 2011, based on a new contract extension with the U.S. Department of Commerce. The ever-controversial Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers still faces the problem of its main contract expiring Sept. 30 of this year, with the major question being whether ICANN will live in public or private hands.
