SPOTLIGHT: Microsoft tweaks Windows licensing costs for virtual desktops
From July 1, 2010, onward, customers who are on Microsoft's Software Assurance (SA) scheme will no longer require separate licenses to use their Windows OS in a VDI environment. This is a boon that will at least encourage the implementation of desktop virtualization for companies with SA. Not everyone is happy, however. A virtualization expert pointed out that VDI used to be "about equally expensive for rich clients as for thin clients." The changes will mean that this is no longer true, reducing the incentive somewhat for going with thin clients. Article
