SPOTLIGHT: Malware attacks down in September
Trojans, worms, malware, phishing scams, data theft, spyware, adware--the security reports often make the internet seem like a very scary place. Are all of these threats real or is this all just security scaremongering? While the truth probably lies somewhere in-between, there's some encouraging news from ScanCafe. Remember that malware boom that was supposed to take place in September, taking advantage of unpatched vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer? Well, as it turns out, web-delivered malware was down 47 percent in September and the anticipated wave of IE exploits failed to materialize. Whether this is the result of early warnings, better security or smarter users remains unclear--just be glad that you didn't have to deal with it.
