Judge reduces music piracy damages from $2M to $54k

Music file-sharer Jammie Thomas-Rasset no longer has to pay $1.92 million in damages to the Recording Industry Association of America, after a judge in a District Court ordered the amount reduced to $54,000. Judge Michael Davis called the original verdict "monstrous and shocking," and said he would have reduced it further if he was able to. Thomas-Rasset now has seven days with which to decide whether to pay, or to request a new trial.
