Internet search juggernaut Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) has made its first direct investment in a "utility-scale" energy project, sinking $38.8 million into two wind farms located in North Dakota. Google says that the two sites generate 169.5 megawatts of power in total, and provide more than enough power for 55,000 homes. This will allow a reduction of fossil fuel use in the region and "in a way that makes good business sense, too," wrote Rick Needham, Green Business Operations Manager at Google in a blog entry.
