Spam on the rise, botnets to blame

If you've noticed a recent surge in spam, you're not alone. As it turns out, 64 percent of small businesses surveyed by Symantec said that they noticed an increase in spam over the last six months, with a third of all businesses surveyed terming the increase "significant." Total Quality Management Cubed has attributed the recent increase to malware, noting that the increase in spam closely correlates to the increase in zombie PCs. What's an enterprise to do? Block port 25, keep your anti-malware definitions up to date and have strong email filters in place, for starters.
