SourceForge announces hosted applications
SourceForge has announced a new service that allows developers to tap into virtualized instances of popular open-source applications. Called Hosted Apps, the service will be hosted entirely on SourceForge, which will manage the infrastructure and security of the hosted applications. The inaugural launch comes with LimeSurvey, MediaWiki and phpBB, which are three of the most widely used applications on SourceForge. For both new and existing projects on SourceForge, the hosted applications can be enabled via the project administration section. According to Ross Turk, director of community at SourceForge, the organization hopes that developers can be more productive now that the burden of maintaining their own infrastructure is removed.
