Soul of a new standard server
Sun Microsystems' new series of servers, called Galaxy, is old news already. But understanding Galaxy's background and direction is helpful in deciding whether to give them a try. Sun server guru Andy Bechtolsheim's thoughts: Speed still counts, but clock rate is meaningless; serial SCSI drives are good, but serial ATA isn't good enough yet; AMD is doing well versus Intel; and Sparc is still alive and kicking.
