Sony recall: what's the cost for the enterprise?
We all know by now what the battery recall is going to cost Sony: somewhere north of $400 million. But what will it cost your business? Sure, Sony will replace the faulty batteries free of charge but what about the time and effort required to replace those batteries? Jack Gold, an industry analyst, says that an enterprise with 5,000 affected laptops "could expect to incur an unreimbursed cost of $625,000 for such things as lost productivity, shipping and the labor of in-house technicians and end users." That figure sounds a bit high to me but then again, not many of us work in an enterprise that's lucky enough to have 5,000 faulty batteries on its hands. What is the Sony recall costing your enterprise? Write in and let me know.
