SMBs do better virtualization, says VMware
Small and medium businesses that implement virtualization are more competent than those who don't. So says VMware, who conducted a blind survey on 309 SMBs where the majority of them are based in the United States.
According to Joe Andrews, group manager of product marketing at VMware, "What we have seen is that the smaller the company, the faster they will go 100 per cent for virtualization. It takes smaller companies more time to adopt virtualization, but once they start, they go in for it in a big way."
That sounds perfectly logical to me; it would obviously be far easier to virtualize three to five servers than attempting to do the same for organizations with 10-50 machines. Then again, Andrew says that SMBs are also connecting the dots between virtualization and how it will help them where disaster recovery is concerned.
What is interesting though is how organizations with server virtualization in place saw 73 percent of respondents saying their IT department is responsive. That did not have virtualization however, responded that "IT staff jumps and then asks how high on the way up," noted The Register.
