Slimmer iPad tablet could be on the way

Expect a slimmer iPad tablet to come soon, according to leaks published by a Dutch-language website. The information was leaked from China, and presumably from a component supplier, says The Register.

In a nutshell, the new iPad would slim down even further with the use of a bonded display. As noted by observers, even the recently-released iPad Air has an LCD display and front-panel glass that are separate units. Don't expect a device with an edge-to-edge display though; the allegedly leaked photo shows the slimmer iPad tablet sharing the same front-panel bezel.

Some readers have questioned the authenticity of the photo, pointing out that the background appears too messy to be a factory floor. Real or not, there is no denying the intense interest that continues to follow the iPad tablet some four years after the unveiling of the first tablet in January 2010.

By keeping to basics such as aesthetics, slimness, a high-resolution screen and improved processors, Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) has succeeded in maintaining a strong presence on the market with 70 million iPad tablets (36 percent) out of 195 million tablets sold in 2013, according to figures from Gartner.
