SIMtone unveils second-generation Cloud Terminals

SIMtone Corporation unveiled its second generation of what it terms the SIMtone "SNAP" Universal Cloud Terminals at CES last week. The two new devices allow users to connect to any hosted Cloud services, including Virtual PCs with very low energy consumption, says the company.

SIMtone notes that the hardware breaks through the $100 price barrier, and sets new price and performance standards even when matched against smartbooks or netbooks. Where the price is concerned, SIMtone CEO, Mario Dal Canto noted, "We just broke a barrier that will allow billions of people to afford and use Cloud services."

The SNAP Two desktop/set-top connects to a computer monitor or television screen at 1024x800 VGA (640x480 for TV) and includes 10/100 Ethernet, built-in WiFi, two USB 2.0 port and a remote control--and consumes just four watts of power. The SNAPbook Two, on the other hand, is a full-featured 7-inch netbook with an 800x480 display, built-in speakers and a capacitance touchpad. It weighs only 740 grams and runs on five watts of power.

Dal Canto summed it up in a statement, "Power them on, type your ID and you instantly have extraordinary browsing and download speeds with no compatibility issues, no complications or configuration."
